That way, you will end up with a ring of gravel around the outside of the fire ring as well. We love having a fire at night out in the yard so we decided to install a fire pit ring in the ground. When building a fire pit, lining the innermost wall with a steel fire ring (available on amazon from brands like sunnydaze decor) will prevent the wall. A protective fire pit pad should do the trick. Our kit can be installed on grass — on top of a gravel paver base — or on top of a patio.
